The Whetzel property, now part of the Seattle DOT Promenade & Overlook Walk along Alaskan Way, operated as a gasoline service station and auto repair shop from 1949 through the 1980s, with two underground storage tanks — a 250-gallon and a 500-gallon unit — holding petroleum products on site. Remediation has included excavation and off-site disposal of 2,150 tons of petroleum-contaminated soil, removal of both USTs, and groundwater dewatering that extracted 7,600 gallons for treatment and disposal. Why Historical Insurance Policies May Be Accessible
