This property has a documented history as a gasoline service station going back to 1949. Historical insurance policies issued during those prior operations and through 1986 could fund a cleanup — and recover costs already spent.

This Seattle property served as a private vehicle fueling facility for The Hertz Corporation from 1949 to 1978, with underground storage tanks dispensing gasoline and diesel to Hertz's rental fleet. In 1994, four USTs were removed and 225 cubic yards of petroleum-contaminated soil were excavated, with 60 cubic yards disposed offsite and approximately 50 gallons of excavation water removed. A groundwater monitoring program using five installed monitoring wells was initiated in 1994 and continued through at least 2001 to assess natural attenuation of remaining contamination.
